Undoing, Redoing, Repeating Actions

Undoing, Redoing, & Repeating Actions

Word offers a trio of commands that enable you to undo, redo, or repeat the last thing you did.

  • Undo reverses your last action. Word supports multiple levels of undo, enabling you to reverse more than the last action.

  • Redo reverses the Undo command. This command is only available if the last thing you did was use the Undo command.

  • Repeat performs your last action again. This command is only available when your last action was anything other than using the Undo or Redo command.

Tips

  • The exact wording of these commands on the Edit menu varies depending on the last action performed. The Undo command is always the first command under the Edit menu; the Redo or Repeat command (whichever appears on the menu) is always the second command under the full Edit menu. Figures 69, 70, and 71 show some examples.

Figure 69, 70, & 71. Some examples of how the Undo, Redo, and Repeat commands can appear on the Edit menu.

  • The Redo and Repeat commands are never both available at the same time.

  • Think of the Undo command as the Oops! commandanytime you say "Oops!" you'll probably want to use it.

  • The Repeat command is especially useful for applying formatting to text scattered throughout your document. I tell you more about formatting in Chapters 3 and 4.
