Paste Options


When you use the Paste command or drag and drop text to copy or move it, the Paste Options button appears (Figures 50 and 54). Clicking this icon displays a menu of formatting options (Figure 59):

  • Keep source formatting retains the formatting applied to the original item.

  • Match destination formatting changes the formatting to match the new location.

  • Keep text only removes all formatting.

Tips

  • You do not have to use the Paste Options feature when you copy or move text. Use it only when the formatting of the text you copied or moved needs to be changed.

  • The Paste Options button automatically disappears as you work with Word.

  • Formatting text is discussed in detail in Chapters 3 and 4.


To set formatting options with Paste Options

1.

Click the Paste Options button to display the Paste Options menu (Figure 59).

2.

Click to select the option you want.

To disable Paste Options

1.

Choose Word > Preferences (Figure 29).

2.

Click Edit in the Preferences dialog that appears (Figure 60).

3.

Turn off the check box for Show Paste Options buttons.

4.

Click OK.
