Opening Documents


Once a document has been saved, you can reopen it to read it, modify it, or print it.

To open an existing document

1.

Choose File > Open (Figure 10), press , or click the Open button on the Standard toolbar.

2.

Use the Open dialog that appears (Figure 20) to locate the file you want to open:

  • Click a view button to display the list of files and folders in list (Figure 21) or column (Figure 20) view.

  • Click an item in the Sidebar to display the contents of that item.

  • Use the pop-up menu above the list of files (Figure 22) to backtrack through the file hierarchy or open a recently opened folder.

  • Double-click a folder to open it.

Select the file you want to open and click the Open button.

Double-click the file you want to open.

Tips

  • To view only specific types of files in the Open dialog, select a format from the Enable pop-up menu at the top of the dialog (Figure 23).

  • If you select All Documents from the Enable pop-up menu (Figure 23), you can open any kind of document file. Be aware, however, that a document in an incompatible format may not appear the way you expect when opened.

  • You can open a recent file by selecting it from the list of recently opened files at the bottom of the File menu (Figure 10).
