Note Recording preferences (Figure 50) control how audio notes are recorded. The options in this pane will determine how audio notes sound as well as how much space they take in a Word file.

  • Quality is the overall quality of the recording. Your options are Low, Medium, Medium-High, High, and Custom. The higher the quality, the more disk space is required for a recording. Changes you make to this pop-up menu affect settings in the other pop-up menus.

  • Audio Type is the format for the recording. Your options are Advanced Audio Coding (MP4), AIFF, and WAV. AIFF and WAV require more disk space than MP4.

  • Channels enables you to record in one channel (Mono) or two channels (Stereo). Stereo requires more disk space than Mono.

  • Sample Size is the bit rate for recording. Your choices are 8 bit and 16 bit. The more bits, the more disk space required. This option is only available if you choose AIFF or WAV from the Audio Type pop-up menu.

  • Sampling Rate is the digital audio frequency for capture. A higher sampling rate requires more disk space.
