Notebook Sections


A Word notebook file is organized into sections. Each section has its own identifying tab on the right side of the document window and a section title in the section header. You can organize the notes in your notebook file by customizing and shuffling section tabs and entering section titles.

To enter a section title

1.

Click in the Title area at the top of a section's window to position the insertion point there (Figure 23).

2.

Type the text you want to appear in the title (Figure 24).

Tip

  • You can further customize a section's header by choosing an option from the pop-up menu under the date (Figure 25) to change what appears on the right side of the header. If you choose Author, you can type in the name of the author.

To switch to a different section

Click the tab for the section you want to work with. That section's page appears.

To add a section

Click the + button at the bottom of the list of tabs. A new, unnamed section tab appears and its section becomes the current section (Figure 26).

To rename a section tab

1.

Double-click the tab you want to rename. The tab's text becomes selected (Figure 27).

2.

Type in the new name (Figure 28).

3.

Press to save the name.

To change the order of sections

Drag the tab for the section you want to move into a new position in the list of tabs. When you release the mouse button, the section moves.

To delete a section

1.

Hold down and click on the tab for the section that you want to delete.

2.

Choose Delete Section from the shortcut menu that appears (Figure 29).

The section (and its notes) is immediately deleted. Any tabs after it that have not been renamed are renumbered accordingly.

Tip

  • As shown in Figure 29, you can also use the contextual menu to add and rename a section.
