“The highest compliments leaders can receive are those that are given by people that work for them.”
—James L.Barksdale, businessman
In the movie Field of Dreams, a farmer repeatedly hears a voice urging him to turn his field of corn into a baseball field. “If you build it, they will come,” it says.
And they did.
It’s the same with supervisors who regularly receive compliments from the people who work for them. First they had to build a culture of recognition (and correct any areas where they were mismanaging staff)—and the compliments just naturally followed.
Warning | If you haven’t received any compliments for a while, that’s a message in and of itself. Take some time out to examine your management style and correct areas that need improvement. Then set the example by recognizing others. |
Create a management style worthy of praise—and it will come.
