Choose the right person to present an award.
It’s important that the right person make the presentation. And chances are, it’s you.
Too often, managers want to invite their boss to make the presentation. After all, the higher ranking the officer the better. Right? Not always. Too often, the CEO fumbles when he tries to pronounce the recipient’s name or doesn’t know anything about the person’s specific accomplishments.
To ensure sincerity and meaning, the presenter of the award should be the highest-ranking manager who personally knows the employee and his or her accomplishments. The person must also be able to evoke emotion—whether with laughter or tears—through anecdotes or examples. For recognition to work, it must evoke feeling in the recipient, in coworkers and in the presenter.
