Chapter 7: July

JULY 01

The Dirty Dozen of Why We Don’t

EXCUSE NO. 7

“I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO REWARD PEOPLE FOR JUST DOING THEIR JOBS!”

How well people do their jobs depends on your ability as a leader to communicate your expectations. And, it turns out, there’s no better way to accomplish that than through recognition.

Contrary to popular belief, no news is not good news at the office. People need to know when they are on the right track. Let them know through recognition.

Like what someone is doing? Reward him publicly. You’ll be amazed at how many people start doing the same thing.

So, in short, you aren’t just rewarding people for doing their jobs. You are rewarding them for doing their jobs well.
