Similarity with Photoshop

Photoshop and ImageReady are almost identical twins, in that they share not only the same interface, but also much of the same functionality. Many of the tools, such as the selection tools, the type tools, and the shape tools, are exactly alike. Applying a layer style or a layer mask, working with layer comps, and working with type are also identical. Most important, Photoshop and ImageReady share the exact same file format (Photoshop, .psd), which enables you to keep one set of files.

Because so many things are similar across the two applications, the remainder of this chapter focuses on the functionality that is specific to ImageReady. As you use ImageReady, you will undoubtedly find yourself applying techniques you learned in Photoshop CS2.

Did you Know?

It can be confusing sometimes trying to differentiate between Photoshop and ImageReady. One easy way to quickly tell the difference is to look at the application icons at the top of the toolbox. Photoshop's icon has one feather, and ImageReady's has two feathers.
