Creating a Site in GoLive

Let's start this project by creating a new site in GoLive. As you learned in Chapter 9, "Using Adobe GoLive CS2," having a site window to work with in GoLive is critical. Launch GoLive CS2 and dismiss the Welcome screen if it appears. Ordinarily, you would create a new site by using the New Document command, but because you already have a Version Cue project that exists, you can connect to your project directly and have a site created for you automatically. Choose File, Connect to Version Cue, and you'll be presented with a dialog box that lists your current projects (see Figure 16.1). Select the Sunflowers project and click OK. GoLive then creates a site file for your project.

A GoLive site is always composed of three folders (Web-Content, Web-Data, and Web-Settings), and because those folders don't exist yet in your project, GoLive is going to create these folders for you. You'll be presented with a synchronization dialog box (see Figure 16.2) that will inform you of GoLive's intentions. Click OK, and you'll be rewarded with a lovely site window for your Sunflowers project. Click on the Extras tab on the right side of the site window to see a listing of some of the subfolders that were created (see Figure 16.3). This is an important step in your project because you'll be creating files using Photoshop, Illustrator, and ImageReady, and they will need to be saved within these structured folders.

Figure 16.2. GoLive prompts you with a synchronization dialog box, which, in this case, will be adding some folders to your Version Cue project.

Now that you've created a site file, let's start putting together some of the components of the site.
