Q&A

Q1:

Why did Maurice choose to use three bits for the subnet address?

A1:

The ideal number of subnet bits depends on the number of subnets and the size of the subnets. Committing additional bits to the subnet number leaves fewer bits for the host address. In this case, Maurice made a judgment based on the existing condition of the network. A three-bit mask allows 30 hosts per subnet.

Q2:

Why did Maurice decide to subdivide the network?

A2:

Subdividing the network provided two advantages. First, it reduced traffic. Second, because routers use logical addresses rather than physical addresses, routing offers a means of connecting network segments with dissimilar physical architectures.

Q3:

Why did Maurice use a DNS server instead of configuring hosts files?

A3:

Maurice would have had to configure each hosts file separately, which would have taken a long time. Also, the hosts files would have to be updated whenever a change occurred on the network.
