Case Scenario Exercises

In the following scenarios, you must use what you have learned throughout the lessons in this chapter to answer questions based on a real-world scenario. Read each scenario, and answer the questions. If you have trouble, review the chapter and try again. You can find answers in the “Questions and Answers” section at the end of this chapter.

Scenario 6.1

The company you work for is named Contoso Pharmaceuticals. Users complain that every time they create a document in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or another Microsoft Office application, the company name is underlined because it is believed to be misspelled. Users want this behavior to stop. In addition, users want the entire company name typed automatically each time they type in the first few letters of it. They are tired of typing the words Contoso Pharmaceuticals every time they want to type the company name. What should you tell each user in the company to do?

  1. Add the word Contoso to the dictionary. Add Contoso Pharmaceuticals to the AutoText list.

  2. Add the word Contoso to the AutoText list. Add Contoso Pharmaceuticals to the AutoCorrect list.

  3. Add both Contoso and Pharmaceuticals to the AutoCorrect list.

  4. Add both Contoso and Pharmaceuticals to the AutoText list.

Scenario 6.2

A small business owner wants you to install Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on the computers in his office. He reports that he has 10 computers, 3 of which use Windows 98, 2 of which use Windows Me, and 5 that use Windows XP Professional. They are configured as a workgroup. Each of these computers runs Microsoft Office 2000. He purchased five Microsoft Office CDs because a friend told him that he installed his Microsoft Office CD on his desktop PC and his laptop, and they both run like a charm. He figures he will just use the five CDs to install Office System Professional Edition 2003 on the 10 computers. Where is the flaw in his logic? (Pick two.)

  1. There is a problem with the licensing requirements. Although a user can install Office Professional Edition 2003 on a desktop PC and a laptop, it cannot be installed on two different computers for two different users.

  2. Office Professional Edition 2003 can only be installed on computers running Windows XP.

  3. Office Professional Edition 2003 cannot be installed on the computers running Windows 98 or Windows Me.

  4. Office Professional Edition 2003 cannot be installed on workgroup computers, only on computers in a domain. He will need to purchase Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003.
