Key Points

  • Outlook and Outlook Express can import messages and address book information from other installations of Outlook, Outlook Express, and Eudora. They can also import from text of comma-separated value files. Both programs can export to these formats, as well as to Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel formats.

Key Terms

HTTP e-mail account An e-mail account that connects to an HTTP e-mail server, such as Hotmail. HTTP accounts can be added to Outlook 2003 or to Outlook Express and can download e-mail and synchronize mailbox folders.

protocol A set of agreed-on rules for communicating among computers. Protocols are industry standards, and both the sending and receiving computer must agree on the protocols used for communication to take place.

timeout An error caused by an e-mail or news post that takes longer than the allotted time to download. Timeout errors can be eliminated by increasing how much time Outlook is allotted to download messages from a mail server.
