Summary

In this chapter, you learned how to administer and manage the Routing Group Connector and the SMTP connector. In addition, you saw how link state information enables message routing for different situations. For instance, you saw that the link state protocol is smart enough to know when a link is down and hold messages until it comes up again.

The link state protocol is one of the most powerful features of Exchange Server 2003. Another feature of Exchange Server 2003 is its ability to coexist with Exchange 5.x servers. If your organization is running Windows NT 4 and Exchange 5.5, the issues of upgrading and coexisting with Windows Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2003 during a migration will be important to you. These issues are the subject of Part IV, “Upgrading and Migrating.”
