In the last two chapters, you learned about the storage and routing architectures in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This chapter builds on that knowledge by describing how Exchange 2000 Server integrates with Microsoft Windows 2000 and how it uses the services in Windows 2000 to its advantage. We'll begin with a brief overview of the Windows 2000 Active Directory directory service and then finish the chapter by describing how Exchange 2000 Server uses Active Directory and discussing some of the more important Internet information protocols.
