Performing routine backups of your servers is your primary defense against losing valuable information in the event that something goes wrong with an Exchange server. This chapter described the process of backing up and restoring an Exchange server, from deciding what files to back up to choosing a strategy and performing the backup, to performing a restore operation. A good backup strategy is important, but you still need to know how to diagnose and fix the problems that occur. The next chapter provides a look at some of the tools you can use to troubleshoot Exchange 2000 Server.
