This chapter introduced you to Exchange 2000 Server, giving you the background you need to delve into the Exchange Server architecture in detail. It described basic concepts, including how an Exchange environment is organized, how different types of information are stored, and the services that work behind the scenes to accomplish the many tasks that Exchange Server performs. In addition, the chapter gave an overview of the new features in Exchange 2000 Server, including Active Directory integration, the new Exchange System Manager snap-in, and the Exchange 2000 Web Store. The next two chapters take a deeper look into the Exchange Server architecture, beginning with its storage architecture.
