In this chapter, you have learned some of the basics of SMTP, IMAP4, POP3, NNTP, and OWA. You have learned how to read the more common commands of these protocols and how to log the interaction between the server and client for troubleshooting purposes. You have also seen how the Web Store can become the single repository for all types of data and how users can access that data from most types of client utilities, including a browser, Windows Explorer, an Office 2000 application, or Outlook 2000. This chapter has dealt primarily with static types of information. In the next two chapters, you will learn how to enhance the use of static information by using real-time collaboration applications, such as instant messaging, and chat services.
