Chapter 14 -- Coexisting with Exchange Server 5.5

Chapter 14

Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server is architecturally different from all previous versions of Exchange Server because of its integration with the Active Directory directory service. Many companies will need to migrate from Exchange 5.5 Server to Exchange 2000 Server. During this time, the two versions will need to interoperate. To make the migration go more smoothly, Microsoft has created a couple of services—enhanced connectors that make coexistence with Exchange Server 5.x seamless and reasonable. They provide added flexibility and scalability that was not really possible in earlier versions of Exchange Server. Knowing how these two tools can assist you will go a long way toward making the migration a smooth and relatively painless one for both you and your users.
