Variations on PuntoIn the process of creating Punto, a number of variations sprang up. Although I don't consider these images secondary or inferior to the featured Punto image, they're just not a cohesive fit with the suite of Tuscany images featured in this Gallery of Images. TexturesIn this variation (see Figure ), I superimposed a close-up of tree bark with a duplicate of the foliage texture from the left side of the diptych. Setting the Tree Bark layer's blending mode to Color Dodge merges the two images on the right side, and allows for strong color saturation within the texture. Minimalist Variation. Additional ElementsIn this next variation (see Figure ), I used a graphic image of tree trunks and grass on the left, in place of the foliage texture. After placing this image, I decided to break up the strong center division by running a third image to join the two areas. I placed a detail from Ghiberti's Baptistry doors in Florence, and masked the edges to combine the images. Additional Elements Variation. BrushstrokeIn this final version (see Figure ), I moved away from the figurative representation of the previous variations and added a single slashing brushstroke. Although this composition looks simple and basic, the development of the brushstroke itself was a result of extended trial and error. It was created with a drawing tablet that mapped opacity to pressure sensitivity, fading both ends of the stroke. Brushstroke Variation. |
