Distributing the Border

To make the border available on the Contoso Web site, the site administrator copies Border.wmd to the Web server, and then adds links to it on the Web site. When a user clicks the link, the Player starts, downloads the Windows Media Download Package, installs the border, and plays the referenced Windows Media files. The border is saved on the user’s computer as a playlist with the name that was entered as the title in the metafile. The user can view the border again by selecting the title in Media Library.

There are many creative ways to work with the Player and package digital media to customize the end-user experience. In the next chapter, we look at ways to package Windows Media files and streams, and create customized user experiences by working with server-side playlists.
