Planning for the Training Series

Fabrikam offers its employees free training courses. The training department decided to work with the Media department to record many of the courses and offer them online. Then employees could take online courses at any time, and the training department could reserve instructors and classroom space for those situations that required live instruction, such as CPR training.

As a pilot project, the training department identified a course on shop floor safety, which it will turn into a series of four lessons, each lasting about 25 minutes. Employees can sign up for the course online and immediately begin with lesson one. At the completion of the course, employees will take a quiz and fill out a short survey to prove that they went through all the material. If they complete the course successfully, the result would be added to their employee records.

The training and Media departments will work together to shoot and edit a videotape, and then convert the tape into synchronized presentations with Producer. The two departments will take what they learned from the process and develop a streamlined system for converting more courses to Producer presentations.

In addition to creating the pilot series, the training department will work with the Web designers to create an online training sub-portal site of the Media Guide site. Employees will be able to sign up for a course and then view it using the sub-portal site.
