Understanding PowerPoint Slide Layers and Objects

PowerPoint slides consist of three major elements (see Figure 5.1):

  • Design layer This layer is either blank or a background design, along with coordinated text and drawing sizes and colors. PowerPoint's design templates include a design layer, or you can create your own design layer.

  • Layout layer This layer helps determine the standard placement of certain text and other content placeholders.

  • Content layer This layer includes the actual content of placeholders as well as other objects, such as clip art or drawing images.
