Summary

PostgreSQL provides a very flexible and powerful system for restricting access over the network. It allows you to define which hosts can access what database with the help of which kind of authentification. This makes PostgreSQL a great solution for network databases. However, PostgreSQL has a far from perfect user and group system that can hardly be used for building really secure applications.
