Summary

Exchange 2007 administration has definitely changed. Organizations that have become dependent on delegating mailbox administration through Active Directory Users and Computers will surely experience some growing pains as they transition their mail-recipient administrators back to the Exchange Management Console. To add insult to injury, the Exchange Management Console has been completely revamped and has a completely new look and feel. Finally, more complex administrative tasks will often have to be performed through the Exchange Management Shell.

That is the bad news. Well, not really bad news since the new Exchange Management Console is very intuitive and makes Exchange management much easier. The ability to create custom consoles that provide administrators with only the tasks necessary to do their jobs, such as managing mailboxes, will simplify mail recipient administration rather than make it more difficult.

The PowerShell and the Exchange Management Shell extensions may seem complex and intimidating at first, but they are nowhere near as complex as other command-line interfaces, including other Windows CLIs. In just a few hours, you will be using the PowerShell and the EMS like an old pro.

After a few days of using the new Exchange 2007 administrative tools, you will wonder how you ever did your job without them.
