As well as moving on, it is important to keep it simple. Save the detail until later. If it's melodic material, the details such as choice of harmony and rhythm will suggest themselves at a later stage. This is exactly what Dave did not do. He started right. He recorded eight measures of terrific melody, but then stopped and concentrated on the detail instead of moving forward. Paralysis by analysis! In the end he actually ruined the tune he started out with.
