Section E.4. Weblog Publishing Systems

E.4. Weblog Publishing Systems

Weblog publishing systems focus on publishing content that is short, timely, and usually presented in reverse chronological order. These systems are most often used by one person to generate concise text commenting on one or more articles found elsewhere on the Web. Therefore, content creation involves citing and linking to other content. Advanced weblog systems also offer the ability to categorize content easily, as it is being created, as well as collaborative content generation. Drupal and Blosxom have powerful categorization features. Geeklog excels at access control and workflows. Another common use of these systems is to allow readers to comment on the content. Slashdot is a good example of a powerful web discussions forum that works at a very active site and allows community moderation. Weblog publishing systems are an emerging section of the content management system field. While they started out as vanity online diaries, new and effective ways to use them in the enterprise are emerging, such as for project weblogs.
