Chapter 9 -- Creating Databases

3 4

Chapter 9

Once you have installed Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and then designed your database and disk layout, you are ready to create a database. SQL Server 2000 uses the improved methods for storing data and managing space that were introduced in SQL Server 7. Earlier versions of the product used logical devices and segments of a fixed size for data placement; SQL Server 2000 uses files and filegroups that can be configured to grow or shrink automatically. This chapter examines files and filegroups in detail and shows you how to manage database growth. You'll also learn three methods for creating databases, how to view database information, and how to delete a database.
