The SQLServerAgent Service

3 4

The SQLServerAgent runs a service separate from SQL Server, called SQLServerAgent. The service is included with SQL Server 2000, but it must be started separately, either manually or automatically. See Chapter 8 for instructions about how to start SQLServerAgent. Once the service is started, you're ready to begin defining any jobs, alerts, and operators that you need.

NOTE

The SQLServerAgent service was called SQL Executive in Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 and earlier. It is also used for replication, as explained in Chapters 26, 27, and 28.
