This chapter has briefly introduced the family of Windows 2000 operating systems. Each family member-Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Windows 2000 Datacenter Server-provides specialized features to fit a variety of user needs. With Windows 2000, you can utilize the same operating environment from the notebook system to the high-performance, 32-processor systems of corporate data centers. With this information, you should be able to readily select the appropriate Windows 2000 platform for your SQL Server 2000 installation. In the next chapter, we will shift back into SQL Server mode and cover some of the responsibilities of the database administrator.
