Chapter 10. Security

Your Mac is an amazingly safe and secure system right out of the box, but there are some measures you can take to make it even more secure. For example, disabling automatic login is an easy way to keep most people from poking around your documents and e-mail. To get the most out of Tiger's built-in security features, we'll take a look at automatic login, passwords, file encryption, network security, and more.

Since Mac OS X has industrial-strength, enterprise-level security features built in, it's easy to enhance your level of network and Internet safety without buying extra software. The trick is in balancing security with productivity. Be sure to evaluate why you want to use a specific security measure before jumping in; otherwise, you may find that your Mac is hampering your productivity.
