Summary

Before launching down the path of rolling out MPLS VPN services, carriers and service providers must build a solid business case.

This paper has provided a framework for structuring such a business case and presented the major results and conclusions. In addition, it has examined the equipment characteristics of the major suppliers and outlined the effect of vendor strategy on the overall MPLS VPN Business Case.

The principle conclusions of the business case indicate that MPLS VPN services are an attractive opportunity for the fictitious Acme Networks. Furthermore, the analysis has shown that vendor selection has a dramatic effect on key profitability metrics.

Of course, the analysis is only as good as the assumptions. If you would like to change assumptions, examine different scenarios, or simply learn more about Redback’s economic benefits, please feel free to contact your local Redback sales representative.
