6.4 UC03: Customize the portal

In this use case, we are demonstrating how the user interacts with the portal after the authorization has been delegated to TAM. In this scenario, we show how a user customizes a portlet. The portal operates just like it did before authorization was externalized but the processes taking place are those described in the walkthrough in "Authorization: accessing a secure resource" on page 27. The full use case is described in "Business Use case details" on page 16.

6.4.1 Use case demonstration

As a precondition for this use case, we require that the user be logged in as per UC01: Login. If the user selects the page Welcome -> My Page, they should be presented with a window similar to Figure 6-10 on page 238.

In this demonstration, we assume that the user wishes to customize the My Vertical News portlet (visible in the middle of this page). To do this, they would select the Edit icon (the leftmost one, depicted with a pencil graphic) within the window title of the portlet. They should then be presented with the editing window for that portlet, as seen in Figure 6-11 on page 239. Note that the customization facilities available and how they are presented are portlet-specific bits of information.

The user can then make his/her desired customizations. In this demonstration, we have chosen to remove the News Categories World News and US News as in Figure 6-12 on page 240 and have changed the Number of headlines per topic as in Figure 6-13 on page 241.

Once the customizations are finished and the OK button is selected, the user should be presented with the customized portlet, an example of which is shown in Figure 6-14 on page 242. Notice the changed News Categories and Number of headlines displayed.
