4.6 Conclusions

Current mobile networks, such as GPRS, E-GPRS, GERAN, and UTRAN, are designed and optimized to transport IP-based traffic. Consequently, mobile multimedia streaming can become one of the key applications for mobile users.

Packet-switched streaming will offer end users the ability to receive content such as audio and video directly to their mobile device. This service not only enables new content providers to distribute media content to mobile users, but also enables connection to the huge amount of content available on the Internet, making the transition toward the Wireless Internet feasible.
