Mobile video telephony is enabled by different mobile networks (HSCSD, ECSD, and UMTS). Standards also have been developed by ITU-T, IETF, and 3GPP to allow circuit-switched and packet-switched video telephony (3G-324M and SIP-based).

Finally, the success and widespread use of this new type of application will be certainly influenced not only by technical challenges, but also by end-user requirements.
