To customize a sample form

 
  1. In the Fill Out a Form task pane, click Design a Form , and then click Customizea sample .

  2. Click the form you want, and then click OK .

  3. In the task pane, click the aspect of the form you want to modify.

  4. Modify the form as needed.

  5. On the File menu, click Close .

  6. When prompted to save the file, click Yes .

  7. Browse to the location where you want to save the form, in the File name box,type a name, and click Save .

To design a new form

 
  1. In the Fill Out a Form task pane, click Design a Form , and then click New blank form .

  2. Using the task pane to guide you, create a layout for your form, add controls,define the data source, and specify views.

  3. On the File menu, click Close .

  4. When prompted to save the file, click Yes .

  5. Browse to the location where you want to save the form, in the File name box,type a name, and click Save .

To add a table or section

 
  1. In the Design Tasks task pane, click Layout .

  2. Place your mouse pointer in the form where you want to add the table or section, and in the task pane, click the type of table or section you want.

To add a control

 
  1. In the Design Tasks task pane, click Controls .

  2. Place your mouse pointer in the form where you want to add the control, and in the task pane, click the type of control you want.

To edit the data source directly

 
  1. In the Design Tasks task pane, click Data Source .

  2. Right-click the data element you want to edit, or click the Add button to createa new data element.

To create a form view

 
  1. In the Design Tasks task pane, click Views .

  2. In the Actions list, near the bottom of the task pane, click Add a New View .

  3. In the Add View dialog box, type a name for the view.

  4. Add content to the view as desired.

To make a view the default

 
  1. In the Design Tasks task pane, click Views .

  2. In the Select a view list, click the view you want to be default.

  3. Click the down arrow to the right of the view name, and click Set as Default in the drop-down list.

To mark a field as required

 
  1. With the form open in Design view, right-click the control you want, and select Properties from the shortcut menu.

  2. On the Data tab, in the Validation area, select the Cannot be blank check box,and click OK .

To validate form data

 
  1. With the form open in Design view, right-click the control you want, and click Properties on the shortcut menu.

  2. On the Data tab, in the Validation area, click the Data Validation button.

  3. Click the Add button.

  4. Specify the conditions you want to check and the responses you want in the cases that those conditions are true.

  5. When finished, click OK three times.
