To display the formatting of selected text

 
  1. Select the text whose formatting you want to display.

  2. On the Format menu, click Reveal Formatting .

To clear text formatting

 
  1. Select the text whose formatting you want to clear.

  2. In the Reveal Formatting task pane, point to the Selected text box at the topof the task pane, click the down arrow that appears to its right, and then click Clear Formatting .

To select all text that has the same formatting

 
  1. Select one instance of the formatted text.

  2. In the Reveal Formatting task pane, point to the Selected text box, click the down arrow to its right, and then click Select All Text With Similar Formatting .

To add an animation effect

 
  1. Select the text you want to animate.

  2. On the Format menu, click Font .

  3. Click the Text Effects tab.

  4. In the Animations box, select the animation effect that you want to add to the selected text, and click OK .

To align paragraphs

 
  1. Select the text you want to align.

  2. On the Formatting toolbar, click the Align Left , Center , Align Right , or Justify button.

To set a tab stop

 
  • Click the Tab button until it displays the type of tab you want, and then click thehorizontal ruler where you want to set the tab stop.

  1. Click the paragraph you want to format.

  2. On the Format menu, click Paragraph .

  3. Select the formatting options you want to apply, and click OK .

  1. Select the paragraph whose formatting you want to copy.

  2. On the Standard toolbar, click the Format Painter button.

  3. Select the paragraph that you want to format.

To show or hide formatting marks

 
  • On the Standard toolbar, click the Show/Hide button.

To specify AutoFormat options

 
  1. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options .

  2. Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.

  3. Select or clear AutoFormat rule check boxes, and click OK .

To create a custom style

 
  1. Select the text for which you want to create a custom style.

  2. In the Styles and Formatting task pane, click New Style .

  3. In the Name box, type a name for the style.

  4. In the Formatting area, define the style, and click OK .
