Chapter 13. Implementation Products

The core of this book has focused on preparing and architecting as the critical early components to realizing the N1 Grid vision. These earlier discussions provided enough detail to enable an IT organization to undertake a specific implementation plan. Chapter 12 summarized a number of implementation issues through the framework of a case study. That case study involved a multiphase implementation plan that detailed specific product implementation requirements. Providing a reference for some of those products is the focus of this chapter.

This chapter focuses on the four products that are the core examples used in the architecture discussion in Part 3. The chapters on infrastructure optimization and application optimization included discussions about specific products that provide basic value through efficiency. Chapter 10 discussed the same products in reference to the increased value they provided to strategic flexibility.

Two N1 Grid software products enable virtualization to the infrastructure and to applications, respectively:

• N1 Grid Data Services Platform (N1 Grid DSP)

• N1 Grid Containers

Two N1 Grid software products enable provisioning of the infrastructure and to applications, respectively:

• N1 Grid Provisioning Server (N1 Grid PS)

• N1 Grid Service Provisioning System (N1 Grid SPS)
