One last area to cover in our analysis of the core and facilitating planning processes is the differences among resource planning, organizational planning, and communications planning. The differences among these three PMBOK processes are not always intuitive to project managers mainly because activities or elements of these activities are routinely performed in tandem with each other, and we are not accustomed to thinking about them in their logical parts. Plus, it is not always obvious why PMI places resource planning in the Project Cost Management knowledge area and not in the Human Resources knowledge area with the rest of the "project team" type processes. To clarify the distinctions among these three planning processes and prepare yourself for the exam, review Table 5.4.
