The Differences Between Core Processes and Facilitating Processes

Core processes have planning dependencies that require them to be performed in the same sequence on most projects. The core planning processes may be repeated several times during the project. For example, project work must be defined before it is scheduled and resources are assigned to it.

Facilitating processes are different from core processes because they are performed intermittently throughout the project rather than in a specific order. These planning processes are itemized later in the chapter.

Facilitating processes are performed intermittently throughout the project; however, they are eventually utilized. They are not optional.
