Feedback Loop

The results of the monitoring and change detection are reported to stakeholders and other management figures. These results give critical insight into the progress of the project through status reports or informal communications. As change or variance occurs, the feedback cycle needs to take place. This includes determining whether the variance or change is significant and whether corrective action needs to take place. PMI also includes in this feedback loop the necessity to create lessons learned, which involves documenting any knowledge developed due to participation in and experience with the actual project.

Lessons learned are a key part of the Project Management Information System (PMIS) and are considered important resources for planning and future projects. Maintaining lessons learned during project control is important.
