Data adapters act as the liaison between the data store and the DataSet . As such, they are responsible for filling DataTable objects with data and then synchronizing the changes made in your application with the data store. Today you learned how the data adapter accomplishes this by creating or matching a schema and through table and column mappings. In addition, you looked at the various optimistic and pessimistic concurrency techniques you can use to synchronize the data.

As we approach the end of this week, we'll look at specific functionality of providers including tomorrow's look at the SqlClient provider.
