SETTING CALENDAR OPTIONS

Like most of the applications on your BlackBerry, the Calendar application has some options you can configure. Click the Options menu item to display the Options screen, shown in Figure 11.13.

Figure 11.13. The Calendar Options screen offers a few ways to customize Calendar to work the way you want it to.

The first option on the screen is Enable Quick Entry. This option only affects the Daily view and the New Appointment shortcut we talked about earlier. If you recall, you can create a new appointment by simply typing in the subject of the appointment on the Daily view. Changing the Enable Quick Entry option to No disables this functionality.

The next option allows you to specify the view that you want to see first when opening the Calendar application. It defaults to the Monthly View, but if you would like to be in the Daily view whenever you open the calendar, change this option to Daily, or whatever view best suits your needs.

The Default Reminder option allows you to specify the reminder time that is set for any new appointment. The default 15 Minutes is usually a good amount of time, but if you typically require additional time, to allow time for driving for example, a default of 30 Minutes may be better.

When you delete an appointment, a confirmation dialog is usually shown. If you find that dialog annoying, you can disable it by changing the Confirm Delete option to No.

The next three options adjust how the Weekly and Daily views look. The first two, Start of Day and End of Day, change the times that are displayed down the left side of the Weekly and Daily views. Not all people work a 9 a.m.5 p.m. day. If this is you, you should change these to match your typical workday.

The last option changes which day of the week is shown in the first column of the Weekly view. Some people may simply prefer to see Saturday and Sunday together at the end of the week. Others may have a non-traditional workweek. In either case, you can change the day that shows up in the first column with this option.
