Technology Overview

To provide Simpleton with an application that will be robust, efficient, and easily deployed, many technologies were researched before a final decision was made. The key to this process was for Simpleton to investigate leading Web technologies and gather enough information, along with input from FlashFusion, to make an educated decision.

This is always a somewhat difficult process when dealing with Web applications, largely because many solutions are available. In most development situations there is more than one way to accomplish a given task. The goal here is to find the best fit for the project, with the ability to scale in the future. With that said, Simpleton is looking for technology that is:

• Scalable and can be easily modified for future additions

• Stable and reliable

• Easy to debug should any problems arise

• Universal (can run in major browsers and on major Web servers)

• Rapidly developed and deployed

• Well supported with ample documentation throughout the Web

This gives FlashFusion an ample amount of information to suggest pros and cons for technologies that will help Simpleton to make the final decision. This chapter goes into detail about the client, server, and integration technologies available to implement the application. The technologies will be thoroughly reviewed and documented to help simplify the decision.
