7.10 Summary

We have provided a set of hints and guidelines for the development and adaptation processes of frameworks. The cluster cycle model sketches the flavor of these processes. The various hints and guidelines are not a complete solution to the problems of developing and using frameworks. They have, however, proven useful in the realm of various framework projects in leading to a more rapid production of higher-quality frameworks and applications derived from frameworks. So-called aCiRC cards support the identification and documentation of domain abstractions. Variation point analysis helps to inject the right doses of flexibility into a framework. Framelets help in structuring a framework at the design level. Class families, class teams, and subsystems provide an architectural view of the modularization of frameworks. Implementation cases test drive the framework design and result in cookbook recipes. Finally, cookbooks, adaptation cases, and adaptation reports support the adaptation of frameworks.
