by Toufic Boubez In This Chapter
This is the part of the book where technologists trade in their wireless PDAs for a crystal ball. As such, this chapter will present the personal opinions of where the authors see some trends in P2P and related technologies, with emphasis on related. P2P technology does not exist in a vacuum. Several technologies, such as Web services, software agents, wireless devices, and grid computing, have direct relevance to P2P, and all are on a course for either collision or convergence. We obviously hope it's the latter. Each of these technologies can be (and in some cases has been) the subject of several books. Aside from Web services, which we covered with some detail in this book, we do not hope to give them in-depth coverage in one chapter. We do hope, however, to cover them with enough detail to give an indication of their relevance and generate interest for follow-up reading and investigation. For this purpose, this chapter provides references at the end. |
