Creating a New Project

iMovie isn't the only entryway to iDVD. You can start by creating a new empty project.

To create a new project in iDVD:

1.

Choose New Project from the File menu. The Save dialog appears.

2.

Give the project a name and choose where to save it.

3.

Choose an aspect ratio, and then click the Create button (Figure 19.8).

To import video footage:

1.

From the File menu, go to the Import submenu and choose Video. Or, click the Media button and then the Movies button to display the Movies list.

2.

Locate a video source, such as a QuickTime movie, and click Import. A new button or submenu (depending on the movie) appears in the preview window for that video (Figure 19.9).

Tips

  • You can also drag a QuickTime movie from the Finder to the iDVD window, but make sure you don't release it over a drop zone (see Chapter 20).

  • If you have an iMovie project that contains chapter markers, you can add it to an existing iDVD project and keep the chapters. Simply drag the iMovie project file to iDVD's main window, or drag it from the Movies section of the Media pane.

  • Movies that include chapter markers are split into two components when imported: a Play Movie button that plays the entire movie, and a submenu named Scene Selection. To change this behavior, choose an option in the Movies area of iDVD's preferences (Figure 19.10).
