Exporting Movies for DVD

You don't need to rely on the share to iDVD feature to get your movies into iDVD. You can also export QuickTime files that can be added manually to an iDVD project.

To export for DVD:

1.

Choose QuickTime from the Share menu, or press Command-Shift-E.

2.

In the Share dialog, click the QuickTime icon if it's not already selected.

3.

From the popup menu, choose Full Quality (Figure 18.6).

Figure 18.6. Choose the Full Quality option to export a movie that can be used with other programs such as DVD Studio Pro.

4.

Click the Share button to export the movie.

5.

Name the movie file and choose a location, then click the Save button. iMovie saves it as a QuickTime movie in the same format as your iMovie project.

Tips

  • These steps are necessary if you want to export your iMovie into another program such as DVD Studio Pro (www.apple.com/dvdstudiopro/).

  • The file created by this operation is a self-contained QuickTime file, which means all the video and audio is present in the single file. That's the best method to use if you need to transport the movie file to another computer. However, if you're using iDVD on your own machine, and you want to create a DVD containing your entire movie (versus selected clips), it's easier to just drag an iMovie project file into iDVD's main window. The movie is added as a new link (see the next Chapter for more information).
