About the Author


By day, Dave Field is a mild-mannered systems engineer for a theme park in Bloomington, Minnesota. In this role, he has directed the installation of Camp Snoopy's entire network infrastructure. He has been the principal architect of point-of-sale implementations, ERP rollouts, and e-commerce initiatives.

After hours, Dave becomes an author, freelance trainer, and presenter. Certified MCSA and MCSE, Dave is expert at networking technologies and support-desk topics. He has delivered training at Microsoft Certified Technical Education Centers and has written content for Microsoft and Osborne/McGraw-Hill for the MCSE, MCSA, and MCDST certifications.

Dave's experience with Voice over IP began with softphones in 1996 and the MultiTech MultiVoIP hardware in 1999. He currently subscribes to more than a half-dozen VoIP services and is evaluating business telecommunications convergence solutions for Camp Snoopy.

Dave has written How to Do Everything with Windows XP Home Networking for Osborne/McGraw-Hill and Installing, Configuring, and Administering Windows XP Professional (70-270) (an academic textbook) for Microsoft Learning.
