Planning for Support After Go-Live

Eventually, ABC Company will go live on (hence the term "go-live") or productively use the SharePoint Portal Server solution and enjoy all of the benefits inherent to managing and sharing information in a business-efficient, cost-efficient manner. Given the careful and thorough planning surrounding the deployment, it is expected that the actual go-live day will amount to a "non-event"! However, without proper attention to post “go-live continuing operations/maintenance, the system will eventually fall prey to downtime. Thus, ABC plans to leverage its Data Center Operations team to continually provide value in terms of performing daily routine systems management, maintenance, and exception reporting tasks .

In addition, it is anticipated that the Operations Team Leader will meet regularly with the ABC organization leaders responsible for Server/SAN hardware, W2K administration, network administration, change management, and SharePoint development, as well as with SharePoint business group leaders representing financial matters in North America, Europe, and Asia. At every meeting, exception events from the previous week will be reviewed and analyzed , and new business requirements will be put on the table. New and emerging technical and business standards will be outlined, new initiatives (like server consolidation, network upgrades, and the inevitable inclusion of the new global business groups) will be discussed, and both the processes in place to promote changes to Production, as well as the status of various changes within the system landscape, will be reviewed. In short, everything pertaining to the system landscape from an operations and change management perspective will be continually examined and addressed. Doing so will allow for continuous improvement within ABC's SharePoint Portal Server deployment.
